Material: Oaten straw sourced from Wexford and Laois

Old thatch removed, base coats tightened. New rafters put in place and associated sod work on battens.10 inches sliced in using thatching fork for main coat. Flush ridge with bobbin combs. Entire roof wired off to prevent vermin.

Notes : “The Weavers Cottage” - Base coats tightened. Hazel spars and liggers fixings for main coat. Flush ridge. One of many thatched examples of vernacular buildings in this amazing museum.

Material: Wheaten straw sourced from Blackwater, Co.Wexford

Notes : Old thatch removed, base coats tightened. 14 inches coat of Maris Huntsman Straw. Extensive rebuilding of the Barge eaves where they were non existent. Porch Feature. Like many vernacular, this building has a small extension to lengthen it from original.

Material: Oaten straw (Rear,Roadside), Wheaten straw for front, both sourced from Co.Wexford

Notes : Old thatch removed , base coats tightened. 12 inches coat of Maris Huntsman Straw on front. Bobbin comb ridge.This building operated as a public House up until the late nineties.

Notes : This building needed extensive work as serious sinkage had occurred in places. Old thatch removed, base coats rebuilt and tightened. 12 -14 inches coat of Oaten Straw.

Notes : An ancient farmhouse that has withstood any significant modernisation. 12 -14 inches coat of Oaten Straw. This building features a perpendicular return which adds another 30 feet to the existing 60 feet length.

Notes : Another ancient building, possibly dating back to Norman Times. Some of the rafters in the roof were derived from old ship timbers. 2- 3 LAYERS of old thatch removed, base coats rebuilt and tightened. 12 -14 inches coat of Oaten Straw. A Flush ridge finished with bobbins. Double diamond pattern on front of ridge.
